Hi, I’m Harry — the person behind "Seniors Tech and Tea"
I’ve been working with technology since the late 1980s, back when computers were slow, complicated, and definitely not designed with everyday people in mind. Fast forward a few decades and technology has changed completely. It’s more powerful, more useful — and, despite what it often feels like, much easier to learn.

This really hit home when I helped my mum, who was 83 at the time, learn how to use a laptop and a smartphone. She was convinced it was beyond her. It wasn’t. With the right setup and a bit of calm, patient guidance, she surprised herself. Before long she was sending photos and messages to her grandchildren, video calling family, using Google to answer questions, keeping a digital diary, watching cooking videos on YouTube, and staying in touch through Facebook and WhatsApp.

What stood out wasn’t just what she learned — it was how good it made her feel. Confident. Capable. Independent.

From there, word spread. I started helping her friends, neighbours, aunts and uncles. Same story every time: initial hesitation, followed by that “oh — I can do this” moment. That’s the part I enjoy most.

That’s how "Seniors Tech and Tea" came about.

Technology can be genuinely life-changing for older adults, especially if getting out and about is harder than it used to be. It makes everyday tasks simpler — shopping, banking, staying in touch, finding information, watching shows, learning new things, even just passing the time. Yes, there’s some initial setup involved, but once that’s done, most people pick things up far quicker than they expect.

My approach is straightforward: no jargon, no rushing, no judgement. We go at your pace. Questions are encouraged. Mistakes are part of the process. And there’s always time for a cup of tea along the way.

Learning technology as a senior isn’t about becoming an expert. It’s about feeling comfortable, connected, and in control. If that sounds like something you’d like, I’d be very happy to help.

It's important that all seniors have access to tech support and personalised tutoring, regardless of their financial situation. The conveniences of technology hold equal, if not greater, significance for seniors as they do for the wider community. With this in mind, services have been priced to be as affordable as possible for the majority of seniors. * If the price is beyond your reach, please call nonetheless - every effort will be made to accommodate your needs. Alternatively, you could join me at Cessnock and Kurri Kurri libraries on Friday morning for free "Tech Savvy Seniors" classes (funded by the State Govt & Telstra, and organised by the State Library.

Seniors Card Holders & Senior Savers Card Holders $97 The hourly rate enables you to schedule sessions according to your specific needs, with a minimum duration of one hour. (Need a quick hand after our lesson? I offer one hour of free phone support to help with any lingering questions.) * Please note: Regular fee is $129 p/h.
